We apologise for not having posted any news in such a long time.
Toby and Myf have both had a go at Rally Obedience this year and we decided, even though they weren't quite ready, to enter a trial. Mostly so we could see what it was all about. Myf, as she often does, worked exceptionally well - outside of the ring. In the trial? Well, lets just say we have lots of work to do!! Toby, on the other hand, who I took just for the experience and didn't expect much from him, did quite well. We managed a pass with a score of 93. Good little man that he is. A week or so later, he made a return to the show ring and managed to win two Best Bred By Exhibitor in Group, converting one to Best Bred By Exhibitor in Show. We are very proud of this achievement. We still have no puppy plans for the near future. We apologise to all those who have been asking about a Jaemist puppy. Myf has enjoyed some herding this year. She is only just starting out, but she participated in her first herding trials recently and has gained her "Herding Test" Title. This is the first step in the sport of ANKC Herding. It means that Myf is able to move sheep in a controlled manner and can get them to change direction (twice). She joins both Rommy and Didge in gaining this title. She'll take a bit of a break from herding whilst she matures a bit more.
Herding is something that many shelties enjoy. If you are interested (and in South Australia), you should join the Herding Dog Club of South Australia (they also have a Facebook group) if you are interested in having a try at the sport. The Jaemist Shelties had a get together back at the start of July. It was the 3rd birthday for a few of them - so any excuse to get together. They all had a lovely time, running on the oval and also enjoying little birthday 'pup cakes'. These were made from carrot, pumpkin, sugar free peanut butter, eggs and wholemeal flour. All the shelties thought they were very yum. We love catch-ups with the Jaemist family. It is so good to see everyone and to see the shelties growing up. Many apologies for not keeping everyone up to date with the news here.
Late last year, we welcomed a new little puppy here at Jaemist. Her name is Myf. She is a tri-colour and the grand daughter of Sup Ch Jaemist Midsummer Nights Dream (Bobby). She is a very pretty and very smart young lady. She has settled in well and Toby certainly does love her. Myf loves everyone and everything. In fact, she actually thinks that she is the most important thing in the whole world and that everyone would, of course, love to meet her. She likes to 'have a chat' and let everyone know what she is thinking. She's slowly progressing in obedience and has enjoyed having a go at herding. It has been a difficult few months here at Jaemist Shelties.
Molly, who had begun the show year so very well, was diagnosed with cancer back in March. We weren't sure how much time we would have left with her, so made sure we made lots of happy memories in those last few months. She certainly enjoyed herself during this time. We were fortunate that she was able to pass at home. She will be greatly missed but we are grateful that she lives on in her children A lovely Christmas time was had at Jaemist shelties, with catch ups with family and friends and their shelties.
We are pleased and proud to announce that Miss Molly finished the competitive show year as the #1 Neuter Working Dog in South Australia, #2 Neuter All Breeds in South Australia and #2 Shetland Sheepdog Nationally. She was also awarded the Shetland Sheepdog Club of South Australia's Neuter of the Year Trophy. She has certainly enjoyed her return to the show ring in the last 10 months, with numerous Best Neuter in Show wins and Neuter in Group wins. Personally, we think it is just all the food and attention that she enjoys. Losing a sheltie is never an easy thing - they become such a huge part of our families, so it is with sadness that we learn that two of the Jaemist families have lost their precious sheltie in the last couple of months. One from old age related illnesses and one from an accident. Our thoughts are with their families. We know how much they were loved and what a huge part of their lives they were.
Quite a few of the Jaemist family got together and spent the afternoon down on the Araparni Boarding Kennels property.
It was a lovely afternoon seeing lots of shelties playing together. It was Toby, Maisie and Gracie's second birthday a few days later so any excuse to get them all together. We all enjoyed a catch up as well. The last two litters are getting so big - 15 months during this catch up. It has been such a long time since we updated you all!! The last litters of puppies have just had their first birthday and it was wonderful to receive photos and updates from their owners. We have loved seeing them grow and seeing all the activities they are involved in.
Molly has had a return to the show ring this year - and now that she has grown some coat, is doing very well. She has enjoyed a number of class in show wins this year. Toby is enjoying giving obedience a go and will hopefully give Rally Obedience a try in a few months. He is also hoping to get back out to herding lessons as well. For those who have been waiting for news on possible available puppies - we won't be having a litter this year at all and probably not for the next 18months. We would encourage you, in your search for the perfect sheltie puppy to join your family, to do your research. Ask what socialising the puppies do before they come to you and what types of protocols the breeder follows. Ask what health testing of the parents are done and if DNA testing has been done. Owning a puppy is a lifelong commitment and it is important to make sure you are comfortable with the breeder and that you will receiving ongoing support from them. |
